Bowlers who conceded most runs in an innings is a record no bowler wants to get. Bowling is very much an art, the ability to bowl a perfect yorker or a googly is a skill that is not possessed by everyone. However, every single person has their off days, even if you are Muhammed Ali, there will be days where you are just not feeling yourself. Every single ball doesn’t go the way you planned it to go or the execution is just not right. Today, we will be looking at those unfortunate bowlers who had an off night and went on to concede the most runs in an innings. This does not mean they are a bad player, but just that, that night wasn’t the best one for them.

BASIL THAMPI 70 RUNS IN 4 OVER:
The Kerala speedster had a night to forget. This unfortunate event occurred during the 2018 edition of the IPL against RCB. RCB, as we all know has one of the best batting lineups ever, and this night they took out all their fury on the young man. The first couple of overs bowled by Thampi were decent. However, in the 8th over, Moeen Ali smashed Thampi for 2 sixes off his first two deliveries. That over, he conceded 19 runs, as De Villiers also went crazy on him. Thampi later bowled the 13th over, in that over the conceded 18 runs. Moeen Ai hit a four to score his half-century. The pacer was then made to bowl the 16th over, but Thampi was helpless, as Colin de Grandhomme hit him for a boundary and six. In the final over, i.e the 19th over, Thampi conceded 19 runs, with Colin de Grandhomme and Sarfaraz Khan smashing a six each. Thampi conceded a total of 70 runs in that game. Still only 27 years old, Thampi still has a lot left to prove, but it is good to see that, Sunrishers have not lost faith in him, As of now, he still with the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
MUJEEB UR RAHMAN 66 RUNS IN 4 OVERS:
Mujeeb Ur Rahman is the most expensive overseas bowler in the IPL. The Afghanistan spinner had a forgettable night against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. His fellow, Afghanistan player, Mohammed Nabi smashed 2 sixes off him. David Warner was in top form during that game. He was constantly battering Rahman. Rahman had an economic rate of 16.50. He played one more season with Kings XI Punjab, before being released by them.
ISHANT SHARMA 66 RUNS IN 4 OVERS:
The second Indian on this list was during the 2013 edition of the IPL and it was against the big boys from Chennai. Ishant Sharma is also the second bowler from SRH to be featured on this list. Similar to Thampi, the first few overs bowled by Sharma were decent. Murali Vijay was Sharma’s tormentor that night. He was constantly battering the pacer all around the ground. In the fifth over of the innings, Vijay smashed 3 sixes off consecutive deliveries. Sharma was then asked to bowl the 10th over, but again the result was the same. Hussey completely dominated that over and smashed 12 runs. Then came Suresh Riana, after all this clobbering, Raina had only begun. Sharma’s last over went for 24 runs. Raina smashed 4 fours and a six. Sharma had an economic rate of 16.50.
UMESH YADAV 65 RUNS IN 4 OVERS:
In the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore during the 2013 edition of the IPL, Umesh Yadav had a very uneventful night. The pacer conceded 65 runs in just 4 overs. H was facing the Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, so you can kind of understand the situation, but even then to concede to 65 runs in an over is something else. The maximum destruction came in the 17th overs when Kohli and ABD smashed 3 sixes off his deliveries. In that over, Umesh Yadav conceded 24 runs. Kohli was very much in form that day. Yadav’s last over, saw him conceded 23 runs. Kohli smashed 2 sixes and 2 fours. Due to RCB’s batting heroics also supported by Umesh Yadav’s poor outings with the ball, RCB was able to put a solid 183 on the scoreboard. As expected, RCB won the game, and it defiantly was a night, Umesh Yadav would want to erase from his mind.
SANDEEP SHARMA 65 RUNS IN 4 OVERS:
Sandeep Sharma’s horrid night was against SRH. Sandeep was playing for the Kings XI Punjab (so far we have had two from SRH and Kings XI Punjab, very odd) Similar to Sharma and Thampi, Sandeep Sharma also had a decent first over, conceding just 6 runs. However, his torment started during the 3rd over, when Shikhar Dhawan started going berserk. He hit 4 fours and one six in that over. Sharma also bowled two no-balls in that over, to further ruin his night. In the 19th over, Sharma conceded 26 runs, with Moises Henriques hitting him for 2 fours and 2 sixes. Sharma ended up conceding 65 runs, but he did take one wicket. However, Sharma was saved by Punjab batsmen, Bailey, Maxwell, and Saha went crazy and managed to chase down 205.
These are the bowlers who have conceded the most runs in a single over, although it’s a lot of fun for us to watch batsman absolutely destroy a bowler, let’s hope something like this never happens again.
