ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE 263/5 VS PUNE WARRIORS:
What a way to start! This probably had to be one of those matches where you felt pity for the opposition team’s bowlers. Chris Gayle or “Universal Boss” absolutely ripped apart the bowlers. In that match, Chris Gayle scored 175 runs, which is the highest individual score in the IPL. Chris Gayle treated us to a classic “Gayle Storm”. He smashed 17 sixes and 13 fours in just 66 deliveries. No wonder why he is feared by so many opponents. Pune Warriors, unfortunately, couldn’t emulate Chris Gayle’s knock, they scored 133, allowing Bangalore to take home the victory.
ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE 248/3 VS GUJARAT LIONS:
Another Bangalore masterclass, however, this time it wasn’t Chris Gayle, instead, it was the ABD-Kohli show. ABD’s 129 was matched by Virat Kohli’s 109 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. They had a partnership of 229 runs between them, which saw a combined 15 fours and 20 sixes. Scores land records like these make you wonder, how have they not won an IPL till now? (Maybe this is the year, who knows). In response, the Gujarat Lions could only score 104 runs. Bangalore won by a massive 144 runs. 2016 was also a really good year for Virat, as he went on to score 4 centuries and also take home the orange cap.
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS 246/5 VS RAJASTHAN ROYALS:
This math showed what a player Murali Vijay is. He scored a scintillating 127 off just 56 balls, to take CSK’S total score to a mammoth 246. However, Rajasthan did put up a good fight. They scored an equally impressive 247, but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to offset the Murali Vijay masterclass.
KOLKATA NIGHT RIDERS 245/6 VS KINGS XI PUNJAB:
There was one common aspect between the top three teams on this list, they all had an individual player who showcased their brilliance and thus the team was able to score the big runs, however, this was not the case during this match. Al the batsmen chipped in with some runs, with Sunil Narine scoring the majority. He scores an impressive 75 of 36 balls. This was followed by a Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russel thunderstorm. In response, Punjab scored 214 and allowed KKR to take home the victory. A classic example of a team effort.
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS 240/5 VS KINGS XI PUNJAB:
The was the second match of the inaugural edition. After Brendon McCullum had treated fans to a century in the first game, it was Micheal Hussey this time. Hussey scored a brilliant 116, which had 10 sixes and 7 boundaries. He was supported by Suresh Raina and Badrinath. Punjab went on to score 207, which was not enough. This just showed the fans the caliber of the tournament, two centuries in two days, wow!
ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE 235/1 VS MUMBAI INDIANS:
This the third time RCB has appeared on this list, just shows how much firepower they have in the team. This time it was again a master class from the duo, ABD and Virat Kohli. ABD smashed a mind-blowing 133 in just 59 balls, while Virat scored an impressive 82 in 50 balls. Together they smashed 8 sixes and 25 fours. Mumbai came close, they scored 196 in 30 overs, but in the end, RCB won by 39 runs.
KINGS XI PUNJAB VS ROYAL CHALLENGER BANGALORE 232/2:
So far what we have seen is, RCB doing the smashing, and Punjab bearing the brunt of many of these high scores. However, this time it’s the opposite. Adam Gilchrist’s 106 supported by Shaun Marsh’s 79 took Punjab’s total to 232. RCB’s firepower, unfortunately, did not work that night, as they lost the match by 11 runs.
KOLKATA NIGHT RIDERS VS MUMBAI INDIANS 232/2:
This match was Shubman Gill’s welcome to the world. He scored an impressive 76 off 45 balls. However, it was Andre Russel who stole the show. He smashed 80 off just 40 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 6 fours. Chris Lynn also chipped in with his quick 54. KKR won the game by 34 runs.
Let’s hope that in this upcoming edition of the IPL, teams can go “guns blazing” and beat the scores on this list.
