Players who have scored the most fours are a record we all love to see. We want batsmen to go absolute ham from the word “go”. When we see Virat Kohli play an absolute beauty of a cover drive, even if you are not a cricket fan, you will get excited watching it. Today we are going to look into those players, who have hit the most fours in the history of IPL and maybe learn a thing or two from these legends.
PLAYERS WHO HAVE HIT THE MOST FOURS IN IPL
SHIKHAR DHAWAN 591 FOURS:
First on the list is the Indian team’s and Delhi Captial’s talisman, Shikhar Dhawan. Shikhar has hit an astounding 591 fours so far in the IPL, i.e 2364 runs just from fours. We all know what a talented player Shikhar is, and we have seen his escapades with the bat, time and time again. Shikhar is also the only player to have scored back-to-back centuries in the IPL, all the boundaries would have definitely helped.
DAVID WARNER 510:
David Warner has to be the greatest foreign player to have played the IPL (I know ABD and Chris Gayle are there, this is just my opinion), the man has many records to his name. He has scored 4 centuries, is there in the top 5 of the most runs in IPL, has won the orange cap a record 3 times, now he can add this record to his name as well. David has hit 510 fours in his IPL career, and I’m certain we can see more in this year’s IPL.
VIRAT KOHLI 503:
If there is one name that we can guarantee to be there on all batting records, it is this man. Virat Kohli has the uncanny ability to find space and smash the ball for a four. Some of the shots this man plays are absolutely a joy to watch, it’s as good as Muhammed Ali’s hook. Virat has hit an insane 503 boundaries in the IPL, just 7 shy of David Warner.
SURESH RAINA 493:
The second player to score the most runs in the IPL, Raina’s nickname, “Mr. IPL” is very deserving. Raina is considered to be one of the most consistent players of the tournament, and his 493 fours are a testimony to that. Very interestingly, Raina was the first batsman to cross 5,000 runs. Raina still has a lot left in him, and it will be interesting to see his impact on this year’s IPL.
GAUTAM GAMBHIR 491:
An interesting fact, Gautam Gambhir retired from IPL in 2018, yet his name is still there on this list, which just shows the talent this man had. Gambhir has hit 491 fours in the IPL. Gambhir has won the tournament twice with Kolkata Knight Rider, in 2012 and 2014.
ROHIT SHARMA 458:
At number 6th, we have the Hitman himself. When Rohit is in form, there is nothing any bowler can do to stop him. The destruction this man causes makes Godzilla’s action look like it was nothing. The Hitman is one of the most successful players in the IPL, winning the tournament a record 5 times. Let’s see if Rohit can add to that list.
ROBIN UTHAPPA 454:
Uthappa’s consistency and match-winning ability are unmatched by anyone else. He played a vital role in KKR’S title-winning runs in 2012 and 2014. Robin has hit 454 fours in 189 matches. He is also there in the top ten players with the most runs in the IPL.
AJINKYA RAHANE 416:
Ajinkya Rahane has played for 4 teams in the IPL and is currently playing for the Delhi Capitals. He has hit an astonishing 416 fours in the IPL. Rahane has won plenty of games for his team and is praised for his coolness and calm composure on and off the pitch.
AB DE VILLIERS 390:
“MR 360”, we have seen ABD play some outrageous shots. You can set your field up however you like, but there is no way you are stopping him from getting a boundary. His ability to find space in the field is only matched by Virat Kohli. ABD has hit 390 fours in the IPL so far, but I’m certain that tally will increase by the end of this tournament.
CHRIS GAYLE 384:
The only reason why Chris Gayle is 10th on this list is that he has hit more sixes than fours. He most certainly will be number one on the list of most sixes hit by a player in the IPL. Gayle so far has hit 384 fours in the IPL so far. We all have seen what this man can do with the bat, and if you have no clue what I am talking about, just watch the highlights of his 175 against the Pune Warriors.
By the end of this upcoming tournament, it will be interesting to see how much this list has changed. Maybe we can see Virat take the lead, or Dhawan extending his lead, either way, it will be interesting to watch.
