Most runs conceded in an over in IPL, a thought I’m sure bowlers get afraid thinking off. There have been plenty of instances where the batsmen have shown their superiority and just gone on an absolute rampage against the bowlers. Today we will be looking into those moments, where the batsmen have gone completely rogue and inflicted pain in the bowler. Let’s look at the most number of runs conceded in an over.
Most Runs Scored in a Single Over in IPL
-
CHRIS GAYLE 36 RUNS VS KOCHI TUSKERS KERALA:
We all knew Chris Gayle was going to be on this list. The “Universal Boss” really showed us his batting brilliance in this match against the Kochi Tuskers. The dreaded over was bowled by Prasanth Parameswaran. In that over, he got smashed for 4 sixes and 3 four’s, one was a no-ball. Technically he conceded 37 runs, but the one came because of the no-ball, so the runs scored by Gayle was 36, either way, you could definitely see the pain in the bowler’s eyes, but I must say, it was a true delight to watch it.
-
SURESH RAINA 32 VS KINGS XI PUNJAB:
Next, we have “Mr. IPL”. Raina went absolute ham on the Punjab bowlers. The bowler in question here was Parvinder Awana. Similar to Parameswaran, he also conceded a no-ball. In that over, Raina hit 2 sixes and 5 fours, the no-ball also went for a boundary. In that match, Raina scored 87 in just 25 balls. However, to Awana’s luck, Punjab went onto win the match. Talk about a close shave.
-
VIRAT KOHLI 30 VS GUJARAT LIONS:
This is one list that I’m sure people wouldn’t expect Kohli’s name to be there. King Kohli is the type of player, to slowly build his innings and hit a boundary here and there, but that wasn’t the case in this match. In the 19th over bowled by Shivil Kaushik, Kohli smashed 4 sixes and 1 four, the last bowl he ran a double. This was an absolute cracker of a match. Both Kohli and AB got centuries, and we were treated to an absolute gem of an innings by both of them.
-
CHRIS GAYLE 30 VS PUNE WARRIORS INDIA:
Again it’s the same man, Chris Gayle. This time he faced 5 balls, and all 5 balls cleared the boundary for a six. It was Rahul Sharma who bowled the over. Gayle had a strike rate of 600 in that over, absolutely insane! He scored a brilliant 81, which contained 8 sixes. RCB went onto win that match, and I can guarantee you that, Rahul Sharma has not been the same since.
-
RAHUL TEWATIA 30 VS KINGS XI PUNJAB:
What’s more impressive about this is that just a few over before, Rahul Tewatia was struggling to find a connection with the bat. But how things changed. The 17th over bowled by Sheldon Cotrell saw 5 sixes. Tewatia could have hit 6 sixes but one bowl was a dot-ball, a big relief for Cotrell no doubt. Tewatia scored a well-deserved 50 and steered Rajasthan to victory.
-
VIRENDER SEHWAG 30 VS DECCAN CHARGERS:
The destructive “Viru” went crazy on the DC bowlers. In that game, he scored an unbeaten 94. In the 12th over bowled by Andrew Symmonds, Sehwag hit 3 sixes and 3 fours. He had a strike rate of 500. Absolute destruction from the legend.
-
SHAUN MARSH 30 VS ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE:
The match between Punjab and Bangalore was mainly a Gilchrist show. He scored a superb 106 off just 55 balls, however, you have to applaud Shaun Marsh’s feat. Johan van der Wath bowled the over. Shaun Marsh very casually hit van der Wath for 3 sixes and 3 fours. Marsh scored a cool 79 in that match. Punjab went onto win the game by 111 runs.
-
HARDIK PANDYA 28 VS RISING PUNE SUPERGIANTS:
We all know what Hardik can do, in fact, we have seen him do it time and time again. In this match against the Pune team, Hardik hit the experienced Ashok Dinda for 4 sixes and 1 four. But Hardik’s escapades in this game weren’t enough, as Mumbai lost the game by just 3 runs. Pandya still has a lot left in him, maybe he will be able to 6 sixes in an over, you can never predict his next moves.
-
CHRIS GAYLE 28 VS PUNE WARRIORS INDIA:
The third time Chris Gayle is on this list just shows how dangerous he can be. This time it was against the Pune Warriors India. He hit 4 sixes and 1 four off Aaron Finch’s over. This was the game where he scored an unbeaten 175. Therefore you could say, everything he touched in that game went for a six. What a player!
-
ALBIE MORKEL 28 VS ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE:
Very interestingly, it was Kohli who got this royal treatment from Albie Morkel. “A taste of your own medicine”. In that over, Morkel smashed 3 sixes and 2 fours, he then went on to get a double on the 4th ball of the over. Morkel scored a quickfire 28 in 7 balls.
These are the most runs conceded in a single over. Maybe this time we can see KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant have a go at this record and try and beat it. Six Sixes is what we want to see.
