Players with the most half-centuries is a record most batsmen would love to have. These are the Ironman and Captain America of the tournament, because, to be in the top ten of such a list just shows how good a player is. To score one fifty is impressive, but to be included in the list of players with the most half-centuries is absolutely insane. So, let’s not waste any more time, and look at the different superhumans who have made it onto this list.
PLAYERS WITH THE MOST FIFTIES IN IPL

David Warner 48 fifties:
First, on the list, we have the Australian Hitman, David Warner is one of the tournament’s best players. He is third on the list of the players with the most runs in the tournament. He has also scored an impressive 4 centuries, third to only, Kohli and Gayle. Warner’s most successful spells in the IPL have been with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Warner has won the tournament once in 2016. Warner is the leading player with the most fifties. He has scored 48 fifties in just 143 matches.
Shikhar Dhawan 42 fifties:
Next, we have Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan has played for Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is currently playing for the Delhi Capitals. Dhawan’s last half-century came against CSK, in the second match of the 2021 IPL tournament. Dhawan has scored 5282 runs in the tournament and is the only player to score back-to-back centuries. Dhawan’s 42 fifties have come in just 177 matches. Considering what happened in the previous game, it looks like his tally is going to increase significantly this season.
Virat Kohli 39 fifties:
A batting record without Virat Kolhi, impossible. It’s surprising to see Kohli’s name third on this list and not at the top. Virat has hit 39 fifties in 193 matches. He is the tournament’s leading run-scorer. In the game against Mumbai Indians, he crossed 6000 runs in IPL, this just shows how consistent he has been throughout the years. Kohli has also scored 5 centuries in the IPL, with 4 of them coming in the 2016 edition of the tournament. The only thing left for Kohli to do in the IPL is to lift the trophy, once that is done, he can truly be labeled as the tournament’s best player.
Suresh Raina 39 fifties:
Suresh Raina or “Mr. IPL”, is one of the most consistent players of the tournament. He has delivered top performances either for CSK or the Gujarat Lions. Raina has had so many good seasons, that it’s hard to select which one is his best. If you were to ask him, I bet he would say the season where he won the tournament would be his favorite. Raina is second on the list of the players with the most runs in the tournament. Raina has scored 39 fifties and 2 centuries in just 194 matches.
Rohit Sharma 39 fifties:
IPL’s most successful player, Rohit has won the tournament a record 5 times. He has played for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, with his most successful spells coming for the men in blue. Rohit has scored 5249 runs in the tournament and has also scored one century. He has hit a massive 214 sixes and 459 fours. Rohit has a strike rate of 130.6 with an average of 31.24. He couldn’t showcase his skills in the first game against RCB, but I’m sure in the next match we can see a fully energized and revamped Rohit.
AB de Villiers 38 fifties:
Virat Kohli’s partner in crime has hit 38 fifties in 170 matches. ABD has played most of his IPL career for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has also scored 3 centuries and has made 4897 runs in the tournament. ABD has smashed a record 237 sixes and 394 fours. He has a top score of 133 not out, which was against the Gujarat Lions.
Gautam Gambhir 36 fifties:
The Delhi-born southpaw has amassed 36 fifties in just 154 matches. He has scored a total of 4217 runs in the tournament. Gambhir has a high score of 93 with an average of 31.23 at a strike rate of 123.88. Gambhir led Kolkata to its first title in 2012.
Chris Gayle 31 fifties:
One of the most destructive batsmen ever, Chris Gayle or “Universal Boss” has scored 31 fifties in the IPL. But what is more impressive than that is his 6 centuries. Gayle has a high score of 175 not out, which in itself has broken many records. Gayle has hit a record 349 sixes and 384 fours. He has a strike rate of 150.11 with an average of 41.13.
Ajinkya Rahane 28 fifties:
Ajinkya Rahane has scored an impressive 28 fifties in 150 matches. He has also hit 2 centuries. His high score in the IPL is 105 not out. Rahane is known for his coolness and composure. That is why he is such an asset to any team.
Robin Uthappa 24 fifties:
The last player on this list, Robin had hit an impressive 24 fifties. He has scored a total of 4607 runs in the tournament so far, with a high score of 87. Robin is currently playing for CSK and it won’t take him long to fully explode into the scene.
These are the players with the most fifties in the IPL. It will be interesting to see at the end of the tournament how the order will stand. My prediction is that Shikhar Dawan will overtake Warner and claim the number one spot.
